Gun Violence is OUT OF CONTROL!

While most of the media is focused on Pres Obama and his 1st time overseas as the commander in chief, I can't help to notice the rash of gun violence going on right here in the States...this week alone, there were fatal shootings in Washington state, PA, and upstate NY...what strikes me is that the degree of violence in these areas is uncharacteristic of those regions...we're used to hearing about gun fatalities in the metro cities, but how often do you here about a multiple victim shooting in upstate NY?

The 1 story that initially struck a nerve w/ me is the father who murdered his 5 children and then took his own life...it left me thinking, what goes through a parent's mind as they watch their child slowly slip away? Knowing that they're the cause, what final thoughts or words run through a parent's head? I understand that people are troubled and sometimes they just snap...but taking the life of a child (any child, not just your own) is an unforgivable act...perhaps that's why the father took his own life...it made me think of the woman, Andrea Yates...she's the mother who methodically drowned all 5 of her children out in TX a few yrs back...the defense was she suffered from post-partum depression and all this other emotional bull! Or the other lady, Susan Smith who went on national TV and said a black man kidnapped her children...when in reality, she killed them herself...coming across these stories, it just blows me...I feel sorry for the children...when it comes down to it, they're no safer in their own home than they are in the streets

The other story that I found very disturbing was the murder of 3 Pittsburgh police officers...in the story several associates of the gunman affirmed that he'd previously owned guns and was obviously a staunch supporter of the 2nd amendment...he'd wanted to join the Marines, but was kicked out of boot camp after assaulting an officer...in every situation, hindsight is always 20/20...but do people just turn a blind eye to red flags these days?

When you google the name, his photos will come up...many bloggers write about his striking brown eyes and kissable lips...you'll see his workout video, giving you exclusive access to how he kills it in the gym...but there's so much that's still a mystery when it comes to actor/model Keston Karter

I did an interview w/ him last summer and was pleasantly surprised at how down to earth and humble he is...he loves to cook, his 1st hustle was cutting people's hair, and his true passion lies in acting (not modeling as you may assume by his top-selling 2007 and 2008 calendars)...not to mention he has a very endearing sense of humor

Check out his updated acting reel...I hope 2009 will be his breakout year, b/c he has talent that needs to be unleashed!

11 Year Old brings forth the Word

When I saw this, I was in awe! (Sidenote: I was raised Catholic, so I'm not used to church services like in the Baptist congregation). But I have to say, young Jared Sawyer moved me. His passion for bringing the Word surpasses some men 2x his age. It's very obvious that he has the family support and environment that fosters his spiritual growth. So many times parents force their children to do things that are pleasing in their eyes, vs. what the child has an interest in. However, watching Jared, it just comes so natural to him to speak the wonderful works of the Lord. God uses children in the most amazing of ways. So the next time your child shares his/her dream or vision w/ you, support it w/ excitement and diligence (no matter what YOU think of it)

In Stores Today -- Flo-Rida

Flo-Rida may be S. Florida's best success in the last few years. His break out single "Low" was crowned Billboard's #1 single for the 2008 year. And his lead single "Right Round", from his 2nd project R.O.O.T.S had the biggest 1st week sales in digital history! While he may be overlooked in terms of accolades and awards, he's an obvious consumer favorite; both in the States and abroad.

R.O.O.T.S (acronym meaning Route of Overcoming the Struggle) is a feel good CD as soon as you press start. The last few CDs that I've purchased have had that effect, so I'm thanking Flo-Rida for not breaking my stride! While "Right Round" misses its mark w/ me, "Sugar" is what turned me on to giving the CD a fair listen. "Sugar", co-written by the Jackie Boyz (who I absolutely love, Google them, they're an amazing songwriting duo) and featuring Wynter Gordon (an Atlantic Records labelmate and songwriter) struck a chord w/ me b/c it's uncharacteristically corny for Flo-Rida's style. It features a sample from Eiffel 65 "Blue", which was international crossover on its own merit

Enlisting the guaranteed chart-topping talent of such artists like Ne-Yo, Akon, Nelly Furtado, Will.I.Am, and Timbaland, this electro-pop fusion solidifies Flo-Rida as an artist who has a keen ability to pick the right records. "Available" is his confirmation to the ladies, letting them know his status as Akon lays down a sexy yet catchy R&B hook. "Be On You" delivers another great Ne-Yo appearance (has he recorded a bad record ever?) In predictable Timbaland/Danja fashion, Flo-Rida makes us get it in at the club w/ "Mind on my Money" and "Touch Me". It's hard to say that any of the tracks are weak, b/c it's hard to expect anything different from Flo-Rida. The 1 thing we can be certain of is Flo-Rida is a relatively skilled lyricist, who will surpass even his own previously set marks
