Joe Budden is BACK!

Padded Room dropped this past week! Under the indie label of Amalgam, Joe Budden is back with his 2nd industry release, after being low-key for the last 4-5 yrs. After being dropped from Def Jam, he went on to release his Mood Muzik series, as well as developed his own street recognized group of MCs, SlaughterHouse (featuring Joell Ortiz, Royce da 5'9 and Crooked I)

This LP is a huge step up from his debut release. It highlights his raw talent that we all embraced in the Mood Muzik series. While it remains a certain flare that is almost metaphoric on some levels.

The Whole CB/Rihanna situation

I'm not a gossip type blogger and this isn't a gossip-celebrity news based blog and show...but I feel it just a necessity to put my 2 cents in on the Chris Brown/Rihanna situation...peer pressure man LOL

1) Releasing that photo of Rihanna was a GROSS and overt invasion of privacy...however it's the price you pay of being a celebrity...people feel like a celebrity's life and what goes on in it is a matter of public domain or public record...I disagree whole-heartedly! I feel like celebrities voluntarily put out what they want the public to know...when they go into rehab, their people put out releases and stuff so that it appears they are getting help...when the paparazzi takes photos of such and such wearing no panties or drunk in the club...well if that celebrity didn't want to be seen that way, they wouldn't do it...my point is if Rihanna wanted the world to know how bad her injuries really were/are, she would've allowed herself to be photographed or held a press conference, something...the fact that these photos are posted all over the internet just doesn't sit well w/ me...it's like being humiliated a trillion times over...and after the physical wounds heal, she'll always have this lingering over her head...visually it's not a matter of public record, but that's not by her choice

2) This is NOT the same thing as the R. Kelly situation...I've been reading different blogs and peoples' thread comments and it blows me when people keep saying well R. Kelly got off, OJ got off, so will Chris Brown...the difference between them and Chris Brown is they assaulted (and in OJ's case "allegedly" murdered) these women who were nobodies...Rihanna is the freakin princess of Pop! Chris Brown, for all intensive purpose, is the prince of Pop...these 2 young adults are almost icon status...so there is NO way he's walking away scott-free

3) I feel like the "apology" Chris Brown issued was yet another low blow...there was no genuine or heart-felt to it...it was merely a uniform apology all celebrities issue when they get caught up in BS...I think had he went on TV or did a v-log or something more personal, people would maybe soften a lil bit...it may have even helped him when it comes time for the hearing and whatever...but it's safe to say that nobody w/ a shread of common sense is buying into that apology

4) Can either 1 of them come back from this? That's a tough call...I mean retailers and radio stations wasted no time pulling CB's music off the shelves...he's lost his Milk endorsement...he's supposed to have an album coming out in '09, that probably won't happen...so I think, even if CB doesn't serve jail time, his career is significantly damaged...I don't know if I'd go so far as to say his career is over, but he's suffered a blow in the public eye that will be a major struggle to fix...we all know that public opinion defines artist success sometimes far more than the tangible accolades...Rihanna is affected in many ways too, altho not as severe as CB...I think if she eventually goes back to him, her career will suffer too...but if she doesn't, her comeback CD and tour will take her to another level of iconic status...a status that hasn't been held by another female artist other than maybe Tina Turner and Whitney Houston (ie women who moved on after getting rid of the "bad boy" in their life)

1 of T.I's best videos!

This is 1 of my favorite songs from Paper Trail...and I've been dying to see a video concept for it...once I saw him and J.T do it on the Grammys, I knew the video was in the works...next week, I'll be front and center (ok maybe like 50 rows back lolol) to see his last performance before his day of reckoning...I've seen him perform many times, but something tells me, this concert is gonna be absolutely BANANAS!

Kobe in March issue of Complex

I'm a sometimes reader of Complex...I typically prefer Vibe...but when I saw Kobe was on the cover for this month's issue, I had to pick it up (I thought it was kinda wack how Marc Ecko was pressed to do a push-up competition w/ Kobe)

I still can't believe sometimes that Kobe is only 30...his career has spanned more than a decade...and he's just now reaching his prime...definitely a pre-cursor of what's to come for King James

*****************************************************************

I'm not any form a Lil Mama fan...I actually find her annoying and repititive...but for some reason, I like this video...I think it's cool to see the losers of MTV's America's Best Dance Crew still get some level of shine...I mean the Jabbawockeez got to dance w/ NeYo last year...from last season, Fanny Pak was 1 of my favorite groups b/c they had something original and unique about their style...maybe we'll see the clog-dancers in a Lil Wayne video later this year

Looking For a New Host

Ever wanted to be an on-air personality? Do you have your own hometown "fan club" of followers? Well here's an opportunity to be get your hustle on and grow your own fanbase!

I'm looking for a new co-host for the Sunday night segment! Sundays are designated to be our dialogue/topic driven segment...but it's obviously tough to dialogue w/ yourself lolol So I'm looking for an outgoing, animated, funny ass type of person...I'm a very laidback, chill person so I want someone who's the total opposite of me...someone to keep the show live and to help promote it...I'd prefer a male co-host to give the show a good balance

Simple responsibilities are just coming up w/ good, thought-provoking topics and finding music to spin for the segment...you can also take it upon yourself to find guest hosts for any of the segments

There you have it! So leave a comment if you're interested...but PLEASE, PLEASE, PUHHHHHH-LEASE, if you know you don't have the time to dedicate to doing the show and the minimal work it requires, don't waste the time!

My favorite interview thus far...

The podcast is still relatively new and I've done some pretty interesting interviews, but Scott Hebert of Studio 360 Imaging is w/out a doubt my favorite featured interview so far! He's an amazing photographer from Lake Charles, LA, now calling Los Angeles home...I'm so in awe of his hunger and his desire...check out some of the interview and visit his MySpace @ http://myspace.com/scotthebert

FYI for you models and artists out there, if you wanna get booked for serious work, have Scott Hebert start your portfolio!

Listen to the interview to find out how Scott Hebert got a chance to photograph rarely-seen R&B singer, Jon B

Scott recently shot 1 of our favorite couples, Eva Pigford and Lance Gross, for Atlanta's Rolling Out Magazine! He captured some beautiful shots of Eva and Lance, so check out more of the shoot ---->>> http://www.rollingout.com/v2/ro_today/012809/eva.php

On The Shelves Today!

It's been a long time coming, but Ryan Leslie's CD has finally made it to our hands! I ordered my copy a few minutes ago off iTunes...now technically, this is his 2nd CD...but his 1st TRUE US release...my honest review of it? I was expecting more from him as a vocalist...he's done some really great production on other artists' CDs, but his own? It seemed like it missed the mark a lil bit...He can't match up vocally with the likes of NeYo or Usher, but he can hold his own...for me his production quality is what helped sell me...the break out tracks for me are Quicksand, Wanna Be Good, and Gibberish...R. Les dabbles in the auto-tune thing, but it's not too much that it takes away from his voice

Ryan on Hot 97 talks about his relationship w/ Cassie, the exclusivity of RyanLeslie.com, and his outlook on the stimulus plan
(the only station I consistently listen to...Angie is the ish)

Also out today is Bobby Valentino's 3rd CD, Rebirth...I'm not so quick to buy this 1, so I just previewed it on Rhapsody.com...I was done w/ the "Beep Beep" song about a month ago...but the rest of the CD isn't complete horrible...maybe it's the freak in me (lolol), but I really love "3 is the new 2"! I actually 1st heard that awhile ago, so it's stuck...my other favorite on this project is "Stay With Me"...this may be a CD that has to grow on me

Mixtape Must-Have

Living in Atlanta, I come across all different types of great hip hop artists...and this guy is no different! Bobby Creekwater, currently signed to Shady Records (under the parent company of Interscope). Now the 1st time I'd heard of Bobby Creekwater was when he released a mixtape w/ Stat Quo...I can best compare his style to like a harsher-sounding Andre 3000...he's been distributing more of his recent stuff to bloggers and via his MySpace...so as a fan, I couldn't resist sharing some of his joints for those of you that don't like to think outside the box when it comes to music

My Opinion of the Grammys

First and foremost, I have to say, if you're not on Twitter, you need to HURRY up and sign up!!! B/c the commentary on there was far more entertaining than the actual Grammys themselves...I was very happy for Jennifer Hudson winning Best R&B Album category, she definitely deserved it...not b/c of what she's been through, but I generally feel like her talent and vocal ability is always overshadowed by another female vocalist who shall remain nameless *ahem*...it was great to see Hudson's talent recognized and respected by her peers...it was also great to see Whitney Houston look somewhat healthy for once...it looks like she's trying to fill out a lil bit and regain some sort of a healthy lifestyle...good for her!

Normally, Diddy is always impeccably dressed for awards shows...the Grammys this yr? Hmmm not so much...although his casual look wasn't bad, he just seemed uncharacteristically out of place

Ok, we're all thinking it...WTF WAS KANYE THINKIN??? I'm really starting to think he's headed towards a Britney-caliber meltdown...I don't even know where to begin w/ this put-on, so I'm just gonna say it was F'd up from ground up...he reminds me of the guy from the old school House Party or like Lionel Richie in "All Nite Long"...however, I admire 'Ye's ability to stand out and set his own trend...regardless of how ridiculous he looks

It's safe to say that everybody was tuned in to the Grammys for 1 reason and 1 reason only....we wanted to see if M.I.A's water was gonna break right durin the telecasts...the people in the pit and the 1st few rows were all given complimentary splash guards for safety reasons...but to our disappointed, she and Hip Hop's greatest rappers alive gave a very lackluster performance for Swagger Like Us...I get that they were going for the whole throwback Rat Pack thing...but it was just wack...realistically, I think that song is better left to be performed on the "other" awards shows

T.I gave 2 great performances for the night...to me, he was on the 1 who really showed style and swag during the S.L.U performances...and he finally performed 1 of my favorite songs from Paper Trail...the Timbaland-produced, Dead and Gone...I LOVE THIS SONG!!! And I've been dyin to see him perform it live w/ Justin Timberlake...they're about as good collabo as T-Wayne

Speaking of which, THANK GOD T Pain didn't get a chance to perform w/ any of artists he did stuff for in 2008...I give credit where its due, but I'm tired of seein the guy...Lil Wayne took hom 3 out of his 8 Grammys, congrats to him! Ne-Yo won for Best R&B song w/ "Miss Independent", and the rest of the winners? Blah, who cares? You can check out the full list HERE ----->>>>>>http://www.eonline.com/uberblog/b98902_winners_complete_list_from_2009_grammys.html

Follow up on the Aquan Lewis story

A few days ago, I posted the news article a young 10 yr old boy who was found dead in his school's bathroom...this is yet another tragic incident involving a child out in the Chicago area

Over the weekend, I was reading a follow-up report that stated Aquan Lewis' mother was allowed to inspect the school's bathroom and she reported "there is no way he could have done this himself." So she's trying to get an independent autopsy done...which is highly recommended...I'm not a mother, but I can only imagine how it feels to think that your seemingly happy 10 yr old child could have the cognition to think of suicide...kids this age are typically resilient...they have so much going in their young lives that they don't have time to be sad, to the point of suicide...I would think that rather than be depressed or have thoughts of suicide, that kids in this age group would lash out and act out

Supposedly Aquan had said to a teacher earlier that day that he wanted to kill himself...now if a kid says that, doesn't it seem like a automatic red flag? As a teacher, wouldn't you tell the 1st colleague or counselor and try to intervene on some level? Call the parents and make them aware of the child's mental state? Schools everywhere are feeling the strain of our tough economy...but to me, that's not something an adult should EVER overlook or toss aside

Now some people want to make this an issue about race...and I don't see it that way...I see this as a magnifying glass on the accountability of school officials...it's about the accountability and responsibility that we have as adults to our children...I look at it in these terms...let's say the kid was being home-schooled and he'd hanged himself on a closet rack or something in the home, who would the police investigate 1st? The parents? Why? B/c that's who was in custody of the child at the time...black, white, rich, poor, inner-city, suburbs, all of that is irrelevant...I feel like this is a classic example where maybe there were signs or pointers that clearly showed the adults in this kid's life that something was wrong...and they would've saw it had they just paid attention

To Be Continued...

Aquan Lewis, 10, found in school's bathroom

I by no shape or form wanna turn this into a news/gossip based blog...but there are things that I feel are blog-worthy...this is 1 of those things

Coroner: Death of boy, 10, at Ill. school suicide

By MICHAEL TARM – 4 hours ago

EVANSTON, Ill. (AP) — A 10-year-old boy reportedly found hanging from a coat hook at his suburban Chicago school took his own life, according to a preliminary coroner's office ruling on Wednesday. A daily ledger released by the Cook County medical examiner noted "hanging" and "suicide" as the cause of death for fifth-grader Aquan Lewis, who was found unresponsive in a bathroom at the Evanston school Tuesday afternoon and was pronounced dead at a hospital Wednesday morning.

The boy's distraught mother, Angel Lewis, left a school district building hours earlier, not speaking directly to reporters but saying over and over, "He should have been accounted for. He should have been accounted for."

A janitor at Oakton Elementary School, Elliott Lieteau, said he found Aquan on the floor of the restroom and that others told him the boy had been pulled off a hook. Lieteau said he performed CPR.

Speaking before the coroner's finding, a community activist who accompanied Lewis and acted as her spokeswoman said Lewis did not believe her boy committed suicide.

"She sent her son to school yesterday morning in good spirits," Dawn Valenti said. "The next thing she knows she's getting a call that her son died. ... He did not commit suicide. There was nothing wrong with her son."

Evanston police Cmdr. Tom Guenther said the coroner's finding of suicide would not affect how police conduct the investigation. Asked if the finding ruled out any possibility of foul play or an accident, Guenther said, "I don't think we're going to jump to any conclusions at this point."

The medical examiner's office did not return a message from The Associated Press seeking details about the suicide finding.

Before leaving the school district building, Aquan's mother stood at the back of the room during a news conference with police and school officials, crying and sometimes shaking her head as officials fielded questions.

At the news conference, Guenther repeatedly declined to provide any details on the investigation and would only call Aquan's death "an isolated incident."

"It's devastating," said school board member Jerome Summers. "Nobody anticipates the death of their child when they send their kid to school."

School officials still are trying to determine when the boy left his class to go to the bathroom, said Superintendent Hardy Murphy. There are no security cameras inside the school.

Counselors met with students and parents Wednesday. Several parents who attended a school meeting would not give their names, but said school officials provided little information about the death; others said school officials instructed them to avoid talking to the media.

Two police cars were parked outside the sprawling, three-story red brick school, which has about 420 students in kindergarten through 5th grade.

Suicides among children as young as Aquan are extremely rare. There were on average just 10 U.S. suicides among 10-year-olds a year between 1999 and 2005, according to statistics from the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention's National Center for Injury Prevention and Control. By comparison, there were an average of about 75 suicides a year among 13-year-olds, and about 250 a year among 16-year-olds.

Maria Patino of Evanston said her fourth-grade daughter, a student at the school, was frightened and confused about what had happened.

Her daughter asked, "Mommy, is the person going to come for me, too?" because she thought somebody had intentionally hurt the boy.

"I didn't know what to say," Patino said in Spanish. "It's too hard for a child to understand."

Third-grader Michael Barrera, 9, talked to reporters as he left the school with his mother. He said he was uncomfortable at school Wednesday, so he was leaving early.

"My mom doesn't think I should stay at school and should come home and rest at the house so that I'm not so sad about what happened," the boy said, a backpack over his shoulder.

Many students were frightened Tuesday as news spread that a classmate was seriously hurt and rumors spread that he might have been killed, Barrera said.

"I was scared that nothing would happen to me or my friends," he said.

There have been other cases of students hanged at school.

Last February, a 7-year-old boy in Austin, Texas died after being hanged by his shirt from a coat hook in a school dressing room; authorities said he might have been playing a game in which students jumped from bench to bench while trying to touch the room's ceiling.

And in 2005, a Philadelphia third-grader was found unconscious and hanging by his shirt collar on a hook in a school coatroom, but lived. Both cases were ruled accidents.
**********************************

I absolutely feel for this mother and the children at that school...when you think of an elementary school, it's supposed to be the safest place for your child...it should be the 1 place where a child should feel unequivocally safe from the chaos in the world...I realize that the investigation is on-going, but I just can't see a 10 yr old committing suicide...not like that

I'll be following this story as it continues and doing updates on the show, as well as on the blog

My Favorite Vibe cover!

It's about time Vibe stepped up their game and did a full Style issue...I'm really happy to see Vibe finally doing some "themed" issues...I really dug the Tabloid issue they did in January...sometimes you gotta step away from the generic iconic covers...so this is a step in a real exciting direction!!!

Definitely made a good pick w/ Keyshia Cole as the cover image...I'm so sick of seeing Beyonce and Rihanna...Keyshia has a more relatable, everyday people style...she is the epitome of fashion growth from her 1st CD to now...the issue will be on newsstands everywhere Feb 17th

Jadakiss ft Faith Evans "Letter To B.I.G"

I like the video, it's a little different for Jadakiss...I just would've liked to see actual footage of Big, instead of footage from the movie
